Kyle Turley may be the original self-made man. He’s the son of a trucker, a lanky skater kid who molded himself into a consensus first team All-American at San Diego State. Drafted 7th overall in 1998 by the New Orleans Saints, Turley forged an All-Pro career before retiring in 2007. (Inked Magazine called him “the NFL’s first rock star offensive lineman.”) In anticipation of life after football, he started Gridiron Records with Tim Pickett and threw himself headlong into his other passion: music. Now well into his second successful career, Turley still sounds a lot like his college scouting reports: smart, tenacious and intense, with a great work ethic. His music and lyrics show traces of old school country, southern rock, punk and heavy metal. The Kyle Turley Band has opened for some of the biggest names in the music business including Hank Williams III, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Kansas. Kyle Turley sits on the Board of Directors of the Gridiron Greats Assistance Fund and continues to be an advocate for retired players in dire need, many of whom are pioneers of the game.
